Outdoor Aikido Weapons Classes

During the Summer months we move our weekly weapons class outdoors, enabling us to practice together in the fresh air and early evening sunshine.

Buki waza (weapons practice) is a core part of the Aikido curriculum and serves to complement and enhance our learning. It is a means to understanding the origin of Aikido techniques, many of which are derived from the traditional arts of sword and staff.

Our instructors have a wealth of knowledge and experience in Kenjutsu, Iaido and Jodo and you will have an opportunity to learn the etiquette, core principles and techniques of these arts during our classes.

We have prepared a varied and interesting programme of study for the Summer period, including solo and paired katas, all taught in a relaxed and engaging way.

Wooden weapons will be provided for all who need them, but please do bring your own bokken and jo if you already have them. We will be training on grass, so make sure you wear appropriate footwear along with your keikogi. It's also advisable to bring sunglasses or a hat, and remember to apply sunscreen.

We usually meet at the dragon mural wall on the southern end of the rugby pavillion, adjacent to the car park and Scout hut. Please try to arrive at least ten minutes before the class begins.

If practice needs to be rescheduled or cancelled due to adverse weather, we will let you know in advance via email and Facebook.

Pontcanna Fields is located in the central Cardiff suburb of Pontcanna, just a short walk or cycle ride from the city centre and surrounding boroughs.
